Education

At St. A’s, we believe that faith formation is a lifelong journey. No matter your age, there’s always more to discover about God, scripture, spirituality, ourselves and what it means to live as a follower of Christ. We offer programs for children, youth, and adults throughout the year — rooted in the Anglican tradition and shaped by our parish’s spirit of curiosity and welcome.

Coinciding with the school year, a dedicated team of volunteers from our congregation guides our children through the Bible, its teachings, and our life with Christ with a fun, engaging and easy to teach curriculum. All children ages 3 through 6th grade are invited to attend Sunday School on Sunday mornings in the Parish House.

Depending on enrollment, classes are organized into age-appropriate groups, using a curriculum that mirrors the lessons we hear in church on Sundays. Classes are held about 3 Sundays per month, usually skipping holiday weekends. Our Sunday worship is always welcoming to people of all ages with books, activity pages and quiet fidgets provided.

During Advent, children shift their focus to preparing for the annual Christmas Pageant, which is usually performed the Sunday before Christmas.

youth (grades 7-12)

St. A’s welcomes youth in grades 7 through 12 into a community where questions are encouraged, faith is explored, and relationships matter. Youth gatherings weave together faith formation, service, and plenty of time for fellowship. In all that we do, our goal is to help our youth develop a lively faith that invites them to explore their relationship with God, themselves, each other and our world.
Confirmation

In the Episcopal Church, Baptism is full initiation into the Body of Christ. Confirmation is the rite in which a baptized person makes a mature, public affirmation of that faith with the laying on of hands by a bishop — claiming for themselves the promises made at their Baptism and declaring their commitment to Christ before the gathered community.

Confirmation preparation at St. Augustine’s is led by Mother Jenny and follows a structured course on Sunday afternoons meeting approximately 6 times leading up to a visitation by one of our bishops. It is open to students in grades 8 through 12. Together we explore:

  • The Baptismal Covenant and what those promises mean for daily life
    Scripture — reading and praying with the Bible
  • The Book of Common Prayer and the liturgy we share
  • Service and what it looks like to follow Christ in the world
  • Who we are as Episcopalians and our place in the Anglican tradition

In 2026, Bishop Allen Shin will visit St. A’s for Confirmations on Sunday, October 18th!

Adult formation

Spiritual formation deepens across a lifetime. St. A’s offers programs throughout the year for adults who want to explore scripture, spirituality, and what it means to live a life of faith in the world today.

Bible Study
During the season of Epiphany, we gather for Bible study — exploring scripture together, asking questions, and listening for where the ancient texts speak to our lives right now.
Book Studies
Through Lent and into the Easter season, we read and discuss books on Christian spirituality, sitting with the big questions of faith, prayer, and practice. Beginning this fall, we will also offer a book study focused on faith and social justice — exploring what our baptismal call to “respect the dignity of every human being” looks like in practice.
Inquirers’ Class
Curious about the Episcopal Church — or about Christianity more broadly? In anticipation of Bishop visitations, our Inquirers’ Classes are a open, welcoming introduction to St. A’s, the Episcopal Church, and the Anglican tradition. No prior knowledge required; inquiry, exploration and curiosity are the whole point!
Quiet Days & Retreats
Occasionally, St. A’s hosts Quiet Days and Workshop Retreats led by guests. These are an opportunity to step out of the noise, reflect, and be renewed.
